Need a little coaching on how to correctly use this desktop hole punch tool

I was complaining about the rotary punch tool I was using and someone recommended that I buy one of these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08C4WWKN6?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1

So I did. As you can see there, they have a few short videos but they don't really show how to use it correctly, only how to set it up. I'm using it verrrryyyy awkwardly, so I must be doing it wrong. If anybody here uses one like this, can you advise? I have some specific questions:

  • I suspect that I should configure it so that the punch is just slightly past the bottom of my leather when the handle is fully lowered. Is that right? I'm finding that the punch digs into the soft PP plate and then it's a chore to pull it and my leather off the punch.

  • One of the short videos there shows the tool lifting up when you pull the handle down. It doesn't do that for me, maybe because I have it bolted too tightly? Or because it digs into the PP plate instead?

  • Does anybody have links to videos showing one in use? I couldn't find any with google searches.

  • How do you clear the punch without having to pull it out of the tool? Just like using the hammer method or rotary tool, I'm finding that I can get about 3 or 4 punches before it clogs and then even the machine can't seem to do a clean hole.

Any other advise for this?
