I can't get the point out of my awl to change it

Last year I bought this awl haft set: https://www.zackwhite.com/Complete-Awl-Haft-Set--3209_p_856.html
I've used it a few times and even changed the points. I remember when changing the points before I unscrewed the tightening nut and had to pull the point out with pliers. But now I'm trying to do it again and just can't get it out. Before I force it, I want to make sure I'm doing it right and won't break it.
Do these things normally get stuck? How can I prevent this from happening again?
