Need help with snap sizes

I'm making an item with 1/2" wide leather straps. I want to snap the straps onto it rather than rivet it. I had trouble figuring out what size snaps would work, and ended buying Tandy Line 24 steel snaps (online). Got them and yeah, the caps are wider than my straps.
So I need help from anybody who works with narrow straps like watch makers. What size snaps do I need?
