Would beaver tail leather be foolish to use for a saddle seat?

Post Body

Iā€™m getting a custom saddle made and I am tempted to use beaver tail leather (photo of the one Iā€™m interested in) as my saddle seat leather. From what Iā€™ve read itā€™s scratch resistant and waterproof but Iā€™m wondering if thereā€™s reasons I shouldnā€™t use it. Before anyone says ā€œask the saddle makerā€, I will but I just wanted to get feedback to see if I should just rule it out immediately before contacting him as he isnā€™t always the easiest to get ahold of. Iā€™m wondering if one issue may be the size of the tail and require two stitched together but Iā€™m small and use a 15ā€ saddle seat.

Iā€™ve seen it before as a very small padded inlay seat on a Wade. They can get extremely thin towards the tip of the tail.

Itā€™s just grooves. Itā€™s smooth (but bumpy) to touch.
