How to Create Lyrics, Melody and Add Instruments - an easy step-by-step process
Post Body

I find that as I speak out my feelings a natural melody starts to flow. I don’t have to think too much about the basic elements of melody, as in pitch, volume, rhythm and phrasing, because these elements naturally happen in speech. When we speak, we naturally adjust pitch, volume, rhythm and phrasing to communicate our point of view. The only difference between speech and song is that there are melodic development techniques to creating memorable songs.

In this video, I speak out my feelings of love as if I’m having a real conversation, and then a melody starts to come through. I repeat the melody a few times to adjust some of the elements, as stated above, for development. The melody becomes an emotional cycle. You hear it in the first statement, “I’ll love you forever,” it’s repeated again in the second statement, and again in the third. It only changes in the last line, “I’ll always love you.”

I want to do more than just say, “I love you.” They say, actions speak louder than words. I actually want to make an effort to create the right sounds to support my message, it’s more likely to be convincing this way. That’s where instruments come in. I can use instruments to create an emotional response in the listener. Strings are instruments that have the ability to hold notes longer than the human voice. Therefore, I’m using strings to prolong the sad emotional effect of what I’m saying/singing. The strings support me by sustaining that effect through the long phrases.

There’s more to talk about, like how the chords you use impact emotion in your music. Chords provided in video.
