I’ve just had to push back my driving test for the second time because when I did a ‘mock test’ a few days before the real one, I fumbled the bag yet again.
My instructor told me that he doesn’t think I’m ready and he thinks I should push it back so I did but when I told my dad he said that my instructor doesn’t have to ‘approve’ my test and that it’s, and I quote, ‘bullshit. He just wants more money off you.’
Is my instructor right or is my dad? Obviously it’s been a long time since my dad would’ve taken his test and things are different now.
And for another question, do I need my instructor to take a test if I don’t have my own car? Could I not just book it without him and take it without him or do I need him if I don’t have my own car?
While there are certainly driving instructors that may keep you on because they want money, it’s not fair to tar all of them with the same brush.
My instructor told me back in September that he didn’t think I was ready for my test. I agreed with him based on my own performance that lesson- he was a nice guy and genuinely strove to make sure I passed.
He’s also more experienced then I am- your dad knows how to drive. Your instructor knows how to make sure you pass the test. So whilst I can’t comment on your instructors personality or how they are as an instructor, just bare in mind they likely know a fair bit about driving (but obviously if you feel as though they do just want more money out of you, then feel free to disregard this.)
As a side note, I wouldn’t overly worry about the mock test. They can be helpful. They can also hinder. I didn’t sit any mock tests before my test. I had the option to, but I chose not too as I felt like they would cause me to mess up and stress over the test itself and affect my performance in the car going onwards.
There are other factors in play when it comes to a mock test and actual- could be you had a bad nights sleep. Could be you’re anxious. On the actual test day it is up to what you were taught, but at the same time, it’s also up to what’s going on at the time.
