A week from now, I will be on a plane to Sapporo for my first visit to Japan. I've been studying Japanese for about a year now, but frankly, my Japanese still isn't very good. I can very slowly make myself understood, but I kind of freeze up when I don't understand or I can't think of a word. I'll probably have to communicate mostly in English while I'm there, but I'd like to get at least some Japanese practice.
I've been trying to work on my listening comprehension, but one issue I have is that all of the speakers I listen to are so dang good and confident. Obviously, this is to serve as good examples for learners, but it makes these dialogues kind of unrealistic for my immediate future; I'd be interested in hearing conversations more like the ones I'm likely to have:
Struggling. Using filler words. Asking what things mean. Apologizing for not understanding. Correcting oneself, or being corrected.
I think watching/listening to something like that might help me to get mentally prepared for the experience, and possibly also give me some practical tips to avoid getting stuck.
Can anybody recommend anything along those lines?
