Hi everyone,
I've been playing CS:GO for a year and a half now, most of it with a group of friends I'm in a clan with. A few months ago we started delving into the competitive setting, got five of us together and played, while I'm leading them. Sort of.
We play mostly matchmaking, tried faceit but we didn't like it so we stick to matchmaking. One of the first aspects that seem impossible to manage to me is the way we get angry about losing to random pubs when we're a team who's been playing for a year. Fucking hell, I don't even know how we got to double ak/DMG. We lose a few rounds and we stop feeling motivated, and I feel as the IGL I spend more time trying to swift everyone's moods instead of deciding what to do. Speaking of.
We suck as a team. Period. There's so many things we lack that's the reason I'm desperately writing this thread. We signed up for a league last month and we haven't been able to win a single game. These are the points that I feel I'm doing wrong as the IGL:
Not knowing what to do/why: I have issues deciding what to do, I just try to look for strat videos on youtube and we're unable to reproduce any of it, I keep watching competitive games trying to understand the reason they make certain pushes, moves etc but I don't understand any of it. We just got to DMG on aim alone, and our aim isn't even that good. So my reasoning in a map, any map for fuck's sake, it's to simply spread ourselves out, try to get a kill in some place then push that site hard before they rotate, but it's too fucking hard. Most of the time we fail simply because we don't know how to do the simplest things, like how to enter a point together, coordinately. I just can't find a video guide for "how to push coordinately in csgo" and I feel like I really should understand these basic concepts and push them down my teammates' throats. I read the sidebar, the "Analysis" and "Map Strategy" and all I find is a bunch of tips and tricks, popflashes and a certain strat X proteam did. Where can I find descriptions of every map, the current meta surrounding it, and what should every side be doing? I feel that'd be more beneficial than learning a bunch of smokes and flashes and crashing into the same issues every time.
Failing the trade kills/rotations: We have the issue of running in single files every time, that is one of our member dies and we don't do the trade kills, instead we wait for him to be dead, then the next member goes in to try and get the kill and dies too. I don't know how to avoid that, how to understand the mentality of pushing together, in a coordinated manner. Again I need videos of it, or any kind of advice really. The second part is related, it's understanding when to rotate. I, as the IGL, don't know how to interpret when's enough to call for a rotation. How do teams deal with it? The second they see an enemy the entire team rotates? Do they wait until they see the player with the bomb? What if they go back and push the other site, when's it safe to go back to the default positions? Fucking hell, I feel this is another map-to-map thing, where I'd love to find resources for it(instead of "for noobs" guides which only talk about smokes and popflashes)
Understanding what's the best position in the map for every team member: I just send them to whatever place it feels better for them at the time, but if they're playing established roles, do said roles have an optimal position in every map? Do they swap players mid-game if they're not feeling confident in one zone? Barring obvious roles like the awp, where can I find that kind of information?
Dealing with the team's mentality: In my team, defeats weigh far more than wins, and since we play matchmaking we lose 50% of the time. That leaves us in low spirits, unable to play together as much as we'd want, and, in retrospect, becoming worse players since we play 3-4 hours a week at most.
One aspect I manage well is the in-game economy. Hell, I think that's the only thing I do right.
I don't know what to do, I don't know how to kickstart this clan. My teammates are furious at me for signing us up at the league, one of them says we're the laughing stock of the league and I'm starting to think it's true too. I'm too old to get another clan, I will not let my friends down, I will persevere and bring our team to glory. Help me do so.
Thanks in advance.
