is it possible I DONT get fired?
Post Body

Going to start off by stating that I know a PIP is a death sentence. That compounded with the state the economy is in with major layoffs etc - I have prepared myself for the end since the moment the “oppotunity” was handed.

Few weeks back I walked into a catchup that was actually a PIP. I was actually surprised that was the result - was anticipating firing on the spot because it was in person. Manager was gracious enough to award me the almost 2 week vacation I had requested - pushed timeframe for PIP for when I came back etc. Enjoyed my vacay and everything. Came to terms with what awaited me - was actually hard getting back to work post vacay knowing what was basically headed my way - contemplated not wasting 4 weeks to execution - just cut my loses. Got my “check in’ calender invite (likely end date) sent and everything - been at peace tbh

But as the date eventually gets closer I start to think what if thats not the case - Truthfully I have already checked out from this job past that date. All signs pointed to an end - but recently I have been wondering “what if it isnt?” Like what if it isnt just a formality to my end and a true attempt from the company to get me on the right track and continue. Again I know what a PIP is and where it usually ends.

But the reason I am wondering this is because

  1. The work I am doing is softball type - the work assigned I am meeting expectation if not excelling. There is shown improvement that can be pointed and used as wrongful termination - I did what you asked and was agreed upon so why terminate. 2. Why is the check in meeting midday AND IN PERSON. People used to and probably still do get fired in person but normal practice now is over Zoom/Team and then they disable your computer. Seems weird and cruel to have me come in just to fire - and also the time of the firing. Midday when no one in the meeting has prior engagements on calender - gonna make me work a couple hours before sacking me?

Curious peoples thoughts - Am I right to think maybe its not a firing coming or are two points mentioned not that relevant? Thanks
