I just got laid off 2 min ago. My ex-hr called me on an urgent team meeting and told me i am being laid off. They cut down all my access from everything while we r on call. I requested them if I can get a few min to get my documents. They did not allow me.

They forbidden me to show any of my work to my public portfolio. So basically they said I can not show any of the work that I done with them to others whether its on my portfolio or applying for other jobs. I was a UX designer on their b2b enterprise software for 3 years which is not available to view in public. Only licensed clients can see and use it. So they wont allow me to show the internal design of the software to others.

what can I do now? I have a $4800 mortgage to pay monthly on my head for my house & car in canada. How do I even apply for jobs without protfolio? how can I handle this? I feel like dying now, i dont see any future for me.

I definitely feel bad for people who have been laid off, but you were DEFINITELY living above your means. $4,800 for a mortgage is INSANE! Can’t imagine taxes, insurance, hvac goes out etc etc and you only have $20K in the bank. That alone would’ve made you homeless.

Of course I don’t know you but some people believe they work “hard” and must play hard so they buy things they don’t need, cars just to look good, vacations that are not needed, clothes that are not needed and they end up in these situations. Again, not saying this is your situation but for anyone reading this and this is you. BUDGET like you may be fired tomorrow!!!
