Do you study the topics/codal first then read the assigned cases or go directly sa assigned cases?

Tho some assigned cases naman have discussion na ng topics sa ratio decidendi pero do you think it would be better to study and understand the codals/topics first then read the cases assigned or vice versa?
In my experience, pag maikli oras ko I go directly sa cases in prep for tomorrow's lecture para may bala ket konti haha LOL pero it's not giving 100% preparedness sa recit eh what do you guys think ba? Hahahaha
