By default, no purchase comes with insurance; though I offer insurance with every sale.
Current as of 10/2021
Why?
Insurance, by its nature, is profitable for the individual selling it. So the average person is losing money by buying insurance. Now if you only buy 1 expensive purchase every year it may be worth it to you to insure that expensive package. Alternatively, if you make many small purchases you may determine you would rather risk it. As the buyer, you know your risk tolerance and this other information better than I do, so I allow you to make the decision on whether to insure your package or not, rather than build that cost into every purchase.
I offer three kinds of insurance:
Andrew's Insurance: Covers up to $300, does not cover bullion (11/21/21). 50 cents per $100 insurance, no proration available. Available for first-class or priority packages shipped within CONUS. I guarantee all packages are scanned by USPS. This policy pays out if USPS does not scan the package as delivered. It does not cover 1) Damage in transit 2) Theft from the delivery location. The policy can take up to 3 months to payout - sooner at my discretion if you have sufficient rep. If the item is recovered after insurance has been paid out you can either keep it and refund the refund or send it back at my cost (I will provide a shipping label), though it is my choice to provide the option I retain the right to only offer the return shipping option. In my discretion, I may also allow an individual to not refund the full amount.
Pirateship insurance: Covers up to $1000. It is 80 cents per $100. I will only pay out if pirateship or their partner shipsurance pays out. Their fine print seems to indicate they cover bullion and additionally, collectable coins subject to their terms. "Additionally, collectible coins, comic books, sports cards and similar that are being shipped to be graded and have their value established are excluded. Collectible coins, comic books, sports cards, and similar are not excluded if they have already been graded and have their value established or if they were sold under a paid, commercial invoice or have a recent appraisal." I consider all items I sell to be appraised at the value paid but I do not know if that is sufficient for their policy as I have never had to file a claim. All their other terms and conditions apply, by purchasing this option you acknowledge you have read their policy and coverage in full.
Special Insurance (updated 6/11/2023) - $7 25 cents per $100. Minimum: $500, Limit; high, inquire for specifics. Only applies to priority mail packages. This is the same insurance used by CAC and Heritage, I believe. Again, though, I will only pay out if the provider pays out. The caveat to this is I will personally cover the purchase up to $300 regardless if they fail to cover it. Requires a larger box/signature confirmation (which is why the $7)
Shipping info:
As of June 2023, 0 priority mail packages have been lost. 2 first-class mail package was lost, 3 have had delays over a week or more but were eventually delivered. 1 package has been scanned as delivered but was reported as missing. This represents a loss rate of less than 1/10 of a percent.
