My Declassified Law School Survival Guide
Post Body

Here are, in my opinion, the top 5 most important things that helped me survive law school:

  1. A great mattress. Letā€™s face it, at the end of a long and stressful day, you want to be comfortable. If you can, save up and spend money on something that is best for you. I got a Casper and love it.

  2. A quality and comfortable computer/desk set up. Get a computer that loads things fast and you donā€™t have to stress about it crashing and making you lose work. In addition, get a comfortable desk, keyboard, and mouse. Have a space that makes you feel productive.

  3. An outlet. For me, I played a game of league of legends everyday after school (you can make fun of me for that!), mild workout, and would cook. These small things relieves stress in a healthy way. Find hobbies outside of law school and make time to enjoy them. It makes getting back to the grind more productive and relieves bottled stress.

  4. Use a quality writing instrument for taking hand-written notes. I used a LAMY Safari fountain pen for my notes. Once you use a quality pen, even the Pilot G.2 feels cheap. It also saves you money in the long run. (I spent $30 for my pen and ink bottle, Iā€™ve had it for 5 years nowā€”thatā€™s cheaper than buying pens every semester for 3 years. It is also a better writing experience)

  5. A support system. Iā€™m very lucky to have had a fiancĆ© (soon to be wife) supporting me every step of the way. Find people you can talk to, if you donā€™t have anyone at home, join groups or clubs and make friends.

  6. (Bonus) surround yourself with smart people that better you. My personal philosophy has always been to be the ā€œdumb friend.ā€ The people you surround yourself with will always pull you to their level, let that level be higher than where you currently are.
