So I came to law school always knowing I wanted to be in public interest - preferably something in housing rights sometime down the line. Now as a 3L I decided I may start out at a public defender’s office. My internships have all been public service related and I chose a state school over a T14 specifically so I wouldn’t owe them any money and wouldn’t have to be shackled to the golden handcuffs. I’ve heard stories about big law and it all sounds like a life I would absolutely hate.

Yet....whenever I hear about my classmates getting post grad jobs in huge corporate firms...I get pretty jealous. And it’s not just because they have jobs post graduation (lol), it’s because they’ll be a big law associate.

I don’t even think it’s really the money that I’m jealous about. Maybe it’s the “prestige” that comes with saying you’re in big law?

I’m just trying to understand why I’d be jealous of someone having a job I have dreaded ever since I started law school.
