So we are considering hiring an intern for Summer 2016. And since /u/videogameattorney told me that he got good responses here, I am going to try as well.
We are a small Long Island transactional firm. We handle a wide variety of business matters (think everything for a business, including formations, contract negotiations, internal documents, etc) estate planning in New York and Florida, probate in both states, and real estate transactions.
You don't need to be interested in all of that, but you would be expected to help with all of it.
Intern duties would be a lot of drafting, but you would also be sitting in on client meetings and being assigned to handle certain clients. You will probably become the primary contact for at least one client for the summer (with supervision; I don't expect you to fly the second I push you out of the nest).
I do not have a lot of the specifics worked out yet, with regards to salary or hours. This is the beginnings of a plan right now. That said, if you're interested (and how could you not be), send a resume and a brief (I'm not reading past the fifth page) writing sample to [email protected]. The writing sample does not need to be a brief, and it doesn't even need to be a legal document. A letter is fine ... I just need to see your ability to write. This is non-negotiable though (as I have already had one candidate tell me that she doesn't have a writing sample because she's a 2L).
