In short, the letter thanked me for my quality work over the summer, but that they are not currently in a position to provide me an offer and my name will be on a list should their situation change.
It was a mid sized firm, I was one of two summers. It was my 2L summer and the other was a 1L. I got paid well over the summer and either had good feedback or no feedback on my work product.
During the last day I went around saying goodbye to everyone and asked for critiques about my summer, they all had positive things to say. One mentioned I was late on something but they acknowledged that they did not give me a deadline. (I did ask for one several times because I was swamped with projects and needed to prioritize, there was also no hard court deadline since it was a rsch project)
The firm called the summer a "long interview," should I take the letter as passing the interview but there not being a spot? Or a nice way of rejecting me because I failed the long interview?
