Unsolicited bar study tips:
Post Body

  1. Just do it. You donā€™t have to like it or enjoy studying for the bar, you just have to do it. You successfully completed 3 years of law school for this moment in your life. Those 3 years were warm up, itā€™s time for the marathon. There will be blood, sweat, and tears before you finish, but you are qualified to finish if you put in the work.

  2. Stop worry about other people. Iā€™m seeing a lot of post complaining about accommodations or other peopleā€™s studies. It does not matter to you. Whether someone gets an accommodation or not, whether someone has studied less/more that you, does not change your life. Stay in your lane.

  3. Itā€™s ok to take breaks. During my bar prep (first time passer with Barbri), I took small breaks from sitting everyday. I would put on headphones and listen to a previous lecture I was confused about while doing various chores, cooking, exercising, or riding my bike around my city. That allowed me to listen without 100% attention, while still absorbing some material. But also, look at your schedule, I took 3 full days off without even thinking about the bar. I needed those days. Still did 100% of the Barbri class about 500 practice questions and all the optional essays.

  4. Donā€™t do the minimum. This isnā€™t a ā€œIā€™ll just scrape byā€ mindset. Your mind needs to be ā€œIā€™m going to score the highest in my jurisdiction.ā€ Study like an A student, no matter what anyone tells you. That way, if things go south of bar day, you become a C student and still pass! The C student who has things go south on bar day fails the bar.

  5. Treat yourself! Find something you can afford, but something nice. After you have finished your bar prep (and after the bar) go get it! For me, it was a fountain pen. Itā€™s a small reward for yourself that is less abstract than ā€œpassing the barā€ as a reward.

  6. Go to the venue the day before. Know the parking situation, how long it will take for you to get there, where the room will be. This will take a lot of stress away from you the day of the test.

  7. Get your technology in order. Download everything required in your jurisdiction, test it out and make sure it works. Again, the goal here is to minimize stress and the possibility of handwriting the day of when you planned on typing.

  8. Kick the bar examā€™s ass!
