Are barangay settlements legally binding?

Post Body

I got into an accident over the weekend when I hit a motorcycle while crossing an intersection. He was a grab rider on his way to deliver food, so as a result the food orders worth 1700 were spilled and the customers were not willing to accept the order. Rider had some bruises and the usual bugbog sa katawan but thankfully nothing major like broken bones or concussion.

As advised by the enforcer present at the time, either we settle sa nearest barangay or go to the traffic bureau to report the incident. I was with my mother at the time and nag agree kami nung rider na to avoid hassle on both our parts na we try to settle things sa barangay. So off we went, and spoke with the chairman.

Before we went to the barangay, a concerned motorist approached me to see if i needed dashcam footage, kasi he was behind the motorcycle rider at the time of the incident. It showed on the footage that he clearly crossed the intersection while the light was still red. Imagine, 3/4 na sya nung intersection naka pula pa sya. Yellow pa yung traffic signal when I crossed so technically dapat talaga pwede pa. The enforcer himself said na mali talaga yung rider, but since may accident na involved, duty ko to stop and have it reported, which I did.

Going back to the barangay, I immediately settled the order on behalf of the rider. Paid na kasi and it was for a kids gathering to para maka order ulit, nag send ako doon sa customer nung amount. Also nakiusap din yung rider para hindi mababa rating nya sa Grab platform. Also, I gave 500 to have himself checked sa barangay clinic or any place he chooses as a precaution.

So eto yung terms namin na I agreed to during our discussion - bayaran ko yung 5 days na mawawala daw sa kanya, which is minimum wage of 640/day - half ng expenses sa motor - gamot na prescribed sa kanya ng doctor/clinic

Siguro mejo rattled din ako at the time and late na ako sa lakad ko, plus I was with my mom at the time so I didn't have the proper mindset kaya nag agree ako to those terms, but thinking about it a few hours after the incident, naisip ko sobra sobra naman ibibigay ko, considering sya yung mali. Plus I have damages to my own car which I need to take care of myself. Iniisip ko kasi ill just pay the 640 a day tapos dun na nila kunin yung expenses. Pero ayun nga naisip ko baka magreklamo sila sa barangay na di ko tinupad yung usapan which we signed. Ask ko lang if ano ba repercussions if ganon? Can they file a case against me in that case? I have 2 dashcam footages to present my case naman if needed, ayoko lang nung hassle na back and forth since im outside of Manila.

What would you have done if you were in my situation?
