Landlord forced me to move after a month

Post Body

I’m in a tough spot and could really use some advice. I've been renting a room in an apartment for about two years now, and things have taken a bad turn with my landlord. Here’s what’s been happening:

  1. Unjust Eviction: My landlord is trying to force me out without any valid reasons. He keeps changing his story about why I need to leave, ranging from blaming my cat for problems in the building to saying he needs to do repairs. I’ve told him repeatedly that I’m not okay with this, but he just keeps pushing.

  2. Harassment for Money: He’s been constantly asking me for money, whether it’s to cover damages that aren’t my responsibility or to pay rent in advance so he can settle issues with other tenants. He’s even asked me to use a credit card (which I don’t have) or borrow money from my family to pay for these things. It’s incredibly stressful and feels like harassment.

  3. Neglect of Repairs: My room has serious issues, like flooding during heavy rains because of a leaky window. Despite me reporting these problems over and over, he’s done nothing to fix them. My belongings have been damaged, and there’s a real risk of electrocution, but he doesn’t seem to care.

  4. False Accusations: He’s been blaming me for things that aren’t my fault, like another tenant moving out or issues in other parts of the building. It feels like he’s just looking for excuses to kick me out.

  5. Involving Me in His Issues: He’s dragged me into disputes with other tenants, making me write contracts for him and even asking me to mediate between him and others. It’s not my job, and it feels really inappropriate.

  6. Internet Issues: Moving out would be a huge hassle, especially because I have a wired internet connection that would cost a lot to relocate. Plus, I’m currently job hunting, so the timing couldn’t be worse.

  7. Previous Tenant Forced Out: To make matters worse, this isn’t the first time this has happened. The tenant who lived next to me before was also forced to leave under similar circumstances. It seems like a pattern with this landlord.

I am still looking for a full time job. I only have a part time right now. I've always paid my bills on time though, especially because I have the support of my family. But I don't know what to do given that I have to gather funds if I have to move (needing 3 months worth of rent for apartments needing 1 month advance and 2 months deposit).

I’m seriously overwhelmed and not sure what to do next. Has anyone been through something similar? What steps can I take to protect myself? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
