Ideas on a ten year Plan

Hi all,
I am thinking about hanging my shingle in the near future. My goal is to set up a criminal defense, family law, personal injury, and civil rights (Section 1983) practice within the next ten years. Does anyone have any sagely advice on what I should be doing now in terms of planning? Is there anything that you wish you had known before starting your own firm that you would be willing to share with me?
