Hi all, I’m looking for advice.
I’m an articling student at a mid sized firm and started my articles in the summer. The firm has a very good reputation and very good lawyers. I say this to provide context for the below.
Over the last few weeks I’ve felt very inadequate. I work long hours, and take a long time to do my assignments. My to-do list is never ending and overwhelming. I’ve had multiple nights where I’ve been awake until 2-3am working. I’m often struggling to hit deadlines for assignments.
I think my quality of work is starting to suffer, although I don’t get very much feedback. Sometimes I get good feedback or no feedback at all.
I wish I had more time to learn the law and actually train to improve my skills, but it seems like there just isn’t the time. I’m starting to wonder if law isn’t right for me.
Are these circumstances normal? Is there anything I can do to improve my situation? Should I try to move on from this firm when I get the chance?
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.
