I made a comment yesterday on another post and I've left a few other similar comments in other subs, but I can't stop thinking that maybe I need to make a full post and keep saying it to anyone who will listen until it picks up.
I propose that, on Inauguration Day, we collectively pause any regular stock market investments (like 401k) or divert funds towards community development funding institutions. Why invest in a future when the capitalists are using that investments to destroy that same future?
They use our money to lobby our government to work against the best interests of the working class and future generations - so what future is there to even conceive of retirement? They're the ones who care about money, who desperately need it to maintain their power; all we care about is surviving and caring for our loved ones.
It's time we put a stop to voting silently by paying tribute to these corporations in the hopes of gaining passive income that we'll never get to use. It's time we focus on healing our communities and investing in that instead so that if and when we do retire, or if we become ill, injured, or unjustly incarcerated, we have a community to fall back on.
If you have thoughts on how to firm this up and enact it, please share, cause I have no idea what I'm doing.
