I moved into a rental home that myself and my dogs LOVE about a month and a half ago and it’s our first time out of an apartment. However, in the lease our landlord named a maintenance/lawn man with his cell in case I need anything from him. I also prepay him $50/mo to come mow and weedeat the yard. I’m debating putting myself out a couple hundred dollars or just facing the landlord to tell him we are firing him lol. Here’s my reasons in no particular order: 1) the day we moved in he told us the ceiling fans weren’t working (in every living area and bedroom) so he was going to take them and fix or replace them that week. Fast forward to now, we still do not have fans or lights in the bedrooms, living room or kitchen. We use lamps to supplement light at night but it’s rather annoying and unsightly to have the cables hanging from the ceiling. 2) same thing with smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. He said he had to take them down and repair them and promised they would be back in when we moved into the home. Surprise, they’re still not here and he doesn’t respond to texts about them. 3) he will text to tell me he’s going to come now at “X” time on “x” day and both times has shown up totally different days and times. This time it was a week and a half later when we were eating dinner at 7:45pm that he randomly appeared. Both times he has not finished the job, leaving some grass to be VERY tall by this point and this last time he mowed down my flowerbeds that I told him via text and in person to leave alone. 4) I let my dogs into the backyard to find that the gate was wide open, with no knowledge to anyone having been on the property. I called maintenance to ask if he came by and he told me he had just been there to spray for ants, termites, roaches ETC on the grass about 15 minutes prior and asked me to close up the side of the house because he put bait underneath (we did find termites so this is reasonable) and sure enough the entrance to underneath the house was also open for my dogs to crawl into. Not only could my dogs have gotten out but had I known I would’ve waited to let them into the yard onto freshly sprayed chemicals that could make them sick.
Are these things actually annoying? Am I being an asshole? I’m ready to call him and tell him to never come back to the property or to do his job when he promises he will, and to fully finish the jobs. Is my landlord the issue here for writing him into the lease? Help lol
