We have a 2006 RR Sport HSE w/ 180k mileage. The only real issue we’ve had is the shifter linkage, now replaced, the brake light switch, twice replaced but still throwing a brake light, and brake fluid mysteriously disappearing but then holding for a while.
My wife is driving cross country from Michigan to Florida. It’s about an 800 mile trip including some mountain driving. It would be my preference to have her take this car. I’m just a little bit afraid about its age. The one problem that I’m most concerned about is the following:
We had one problem where it was getting locked in Park and we how do use a screwdriver to press the release button by the shifter in order to get the car to drive again, I wasn’t sure if it was related to the brake light switch, but it hasn’t happened since we replaced the shifter linkage. Could that have been the shifter linkage not fully engaging in park and therefore locking us out?
Other than that, the car has always gotten a double thumbs up from any mechanical seeing it and other than you know the brakes and of course the electronic gremlins that have crept up here in there it’s driven great. Am I at any kind of high risk, letting her take it across country? We also have a 2017 Mazda three which is a For banger, I’ve done that same drive with that car, but his struggles in the mountains but I’ve already put 3000 miles across country on that this year and I was hoping not to do it again since it’s a new purchase.
Any feedback is much appreciated. is it generally safe to let her take a car that age across country, in particular a Range Rover sport?
