My title basically says it all. I am currently working in my "dream job" of environmental education for a state agency and I love my job. Granted, it can be frustrating at times and it is not the highest paid position but, overall, I love it. I also live in government housing on site and have a government vehicle for work-related use.
Unfortunately, there is little to no hope of upward mobility or pay increases. So, despite it being a rewarding job, it is stagnant regarding promotions and raises.
My husband, on the other hand, works for a federal agency. He has excellent upward mobility prospects which include significant pay raises. In order to capitalize on these opportunities, we would have to move around the country (USA). This would leave me in a situation where I would have to find a new job in a market that is not that robust (environmental education).
I am sure I could find some sort of job if we moved but I do not think I will ever be able to find a position as fulfilling as my current one. Also, we would be giving up state housing and vehicle benefits.
I want to support my husband and his career- which would be the best financial decision for us long term- but I am so scared that I will loose myself in the process. I do not want to be the "little woman."
Any advice?
