I think the "saw off an alien head and plug it into electricity so it can say vaguely spooky things then explode" part is really where it got too silly to me - like it feels very much like it's all about the spooky vibe rather than actually having sensible characterisation or plot. I think the other thing that always gets me is how disappointed they are despite finding incredibly intact ruins with full body tissue samples and even working computers - like, that's the find of the century already!
But I guess maybe in the second half when the monsters properly turn up, it maybe gets better?
I still haven't managed to actually finish Prometheus

Works the other way too - apparently kids think of the Matrix as a bad movie, with laughable special effects and a very dated sense of fashion and "coolness".
