Binging the alien series for the first time after buying the 6-film collection on blu-ray. I’m omw to watch Dune 2 in theaters so hopefully there’ll be some suggestions when I come home to watch Alien 3
I’m aware that the special edition fixes major issues with the theatrical version, while also adding nearly an hour of additional content.
However, as this will be my first time experiencing the film, I can’t decide if I should start with the bad version to experience this the way most people did the first time or if I should start with the better version for the sake of not watching a shit-show and then compare it to the bad version after…
What do you think?
TLDR: first time binging Alien—should I start Alien 3 with the bad theatrical or the better special/assembly cut?
UPDATE - thanks for the suggestions everyone! Decided to start with the theatrical version, it’s definitely…a tonal shift so far haha. Just got to the dog’s chest bursting—very much looking forward to the assembly cut; had no idea about the comics and novels, I’ll totally have to look into them soon!
