On this day, the world of psychedelic research was forever changed…
Post Body

On this day in 1943, the world of psychedelic research was forever changed by Swiss chemist Albert Hofmann. While working in his laboratory, Hofmann accidentally absorbed a small amount of a chemical he had synthesized five years earlier: lysergic acid diethylamide, or LSD. Experiencing unusual sensations, Hofmann became intrigued and decided to explore further.

On April 19th, Hofmann deliberately ingested 250 micrograms of LSD, marking the first intentional acid trip. This decision led to a profound and visually intense experience that he struggled to navigate. With wartime restrictions in place that limited vehicle use, Hofmann had no choice but to ride his bicycle home. This journey became euphoric and chaotic as the effects of LSD took full hold, altering his perception with vivid colors and distortions.

This memorable bicycle ride is now celebrated as "Bicycle Day," commemorating the first deliberate use of LSD and its significant impacts not only on scientific research but also on art, culture, and spirituality. The day underscores the unexpected discovery that opened doors to new understandings of the human mind and consciousness.
