LSAT Trainer
Post Body

Hi everyone,

I am currently going through The LSAT Trainer's chapters on logic games. I am on Chapter 12: Numbers Issues. The third drill on page 167 is giving me a really hard time. I don't really understand it and would really appreciate someone's explanation regarding the solution. Specifically, regarding how to figure out the number distribution. I got the following:

marketing team: 2

Sales: 1

Accounting: 2

Hi

So, I’ll write out my thought process and hopefully it makes sense... Let me know if I can clarify anything!

  1. We have 5 spots to fill and nine employees. So we know 5 will be in and 4 will be out. This will help us find the distribution for the departments.

  2. We know F and G are in accounting and only one can be chosen. So that means at most we will have 2 people from accounting.

  3. Our next rule tells us that W is not chosen and W us in the sales department, so that leaves 2 employees that can be chosen from sales (for now).

  4. Rule 3 tells us that we are choosing less people from sales than marketing. And we don’t have any restrictions on the marketing team so far, which tells us we can choose 3 people from marketing at most.

  5. Last clue to ordering comes in out last rule when we are told that T or V will be chosen, but not both. T and V are in sales. So now we know we can’t choose W and we can only choose T or V. So we can only choose one sales person, either T or V.

  6. Knowing that we choose more people from marketing then sales. And that there are no restrictions on the marketing team we can infer that we are able to choose 3-2 from marketing (we can also figure this out because Fa/Ga and Ta/Vs take two spots so we have 3 empty spots to fill and we could have all three spots be filled by Nm, Om, and Pm). Only one person from sales (Ts or Vs), and 1-2 people from accounting (1-2 from accounting, because we either have F or G, but not both can, so we could have Fa/Ga and Ha).

Hope this helps!
