I remember early in the days of speculation before we had anything to go off of, other than Amazon is making a show, there was a lot of debate on if this would be a prequel to the Jackson trilogies. I love that it’s not, since I love seeing new interpretations on the visuals of Middle-earth. Even though the show is clearly influenced by Jackson, I love seeing the three rings looking clearly different from their film counterparts. Which just makes me more disappointed in Narsîl looking near identical to the one in the films, and the same with the Balrog. And I think that adds some fuel to the people getting mad about this breaking canon. Tolkien isn’t like Star Wars or the MCU where everything is canon. Each new adaptation is almost like it’s own new alternate universe to Tolkien’s original books, and as long as new adaptations stay true to Tolkien’s themes then I love seeing them, even if the lore doesn’t match up 100%.
