eARC Issue C9 PS4/PS5 Multichannel PCM
Post Body

After LG released the LPCM update, I had made some tests and thought it had been completely fixed since I could receive LPCM from multiple sources and devices however, it's not till yesterday that I noticed there is a bug that prevents this from working on the PS4/PS5 and I'm not sure if it's TV Related, Receiver related, Sony consoles related or it's an issue specifically with the C9.

In summary, I was playing a Final Fantasy game in PS5 and noticed that I wasn't getting audio on some of the dialogue. When I checked, I realized that it was outputting PCM 2.0 midgame.

I also realized this was happening all this time on the PS4 as well on another game and I just didn't notice till now. So definitely not a console specific issue (happens on both ps4 and ps5), but could be a Sony issue??? who knows...

When I go back to the main screen, the audio source would change to Multichannel PCM.

After some troubleshooting, I realized that if I changed from eARC ON to OFF and ON midgame, it would take Multichannel PCM and surround sound and dialogue would work. This also happens if I change TV inputs, basically "Reset" the tv input midgame.

It would remain working until a Chapter is done and as soon as it has to "reload" again, lets say start on a new chapter. This would happen again.

I couldn't find anything online around this, but I did run into some post for some people that have similar issues in other games, lets say Call of Duty where they get surround and once they exit to home screen and go back it's Stereo, and they need to "Reset" eARC to get the surround sound "back".

I've seen another post where someone states " the C9 can sometimes behave a bit strangely, that it only uses ARC despite a selected eARC mode in the settings. If you switch briefly between ARC and eARC mode, you can usually solve this issue. "

This is exactly what's happening here.

I will probably make a video of this whole process since I'm really curious to see where the issue is happening. If I had a Sony TV, or an updated version of the LG Oled, I could eliminate some of the areas and maybe its a Playstation incorrect implementation or the receiver that I'm using. It's a Wisa Sound send, new technology, and there might be a sync issue every time it needs to "sync the audio"

Here is a link to me asking the question in another forum...

I have a feeling I'm going to be a little out of luck here figuring what's happening but worth a shot.

Even if there is a way to pinpoint the problem, it would require an update from LG, Sony or the audio receiver company that I'm using, which at this stage in the game it's been going on for years so no one is going to fix it. If it's a C9 specific, I can sell the TV and get one of the new ones.

Hopefully someone has any ideas here!

Thanks in advance,
