I've tried a lot of MMOs. At first I thought I just wanted the competition, so I played MMOs like Albion and Eve. But then I realized that level of competition brought in a specific kind of crowd that I couldn't find myself really mingling with. Guild Wars 2 was the last time I was excited to get onto Discord and login to the game, because I really felt like I had grown with a community of friends even though the game itself was starting to get old for me.
For the MMO I'm looking for, it still needs to be fun. Ideally, I would love something with crafting and free-range base building, a solid PvE system with some amount of lore, and PvP ranging from just being an option to an integral part of the game. Toxicity in PvP isn't a huge problem for me as long as it's not Rust-level toxic. The biggest factor for me, however, is that it has a good community.
Games I've tried that are a no go for me:
- Eve Online
- Guild Wars 2
- Conan Exiles
- WoW
- Lost Ark
- Destiny 2
- FFXIV
- Path of Exile
- Spiral Knights
- Star Trek Online
- Black Desert
- Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis
Games I would love to give a second chance if I could just find a friendly group to play with, PvP or no:
- Dungeons & Dragons Online
- Neverwinter
- Warframe
- Old School Runescape
- Monster Hunter World
- Monster Hunter Rise
- Project: Gorgon
- Temtem
- Pokemon Scarlet/Violet (I know it's not really an MMO, but sometimes it sorta feels like one with the help of Discord)
- Guild Wars Trilogy
- Albion Online (hesitant! But like I said, if there's a friendly group, I might be convinced)
I'm sure there are more, but that's what I can think of. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
