Tip: Die in your village and leave your backpack as a beacon

The easiest way for me to find my way back home is to use my backpack beacon. I die in each village and leave my backpack untouched. That allows me to easily know which direction to go when Iām somewhat close to home.
I know the map has a location for each village but it seems easier to just follow the light.
What are your tips?
