Yes, we're going dark on June 12th.
To show our support for the users and subreddits protesting Reddit's pending changes to their API access, r/LAr4r will be going private for an indefinite period of time, beginning June 12th.
I understand we are a microscopically small subreddit, and the impact of this action is likely negligible, but when faced with the choice of doing the right thing or the wrong thing, the path we have to take is obvious. We all love Reddit, for better or worse, and we all have to do whatever we can to send a message.
I understand some subreddits are limiting their shutdown to 48 hours, but I personally feel that isn't enough. Indefinite shutdowns are the only tool that give the users a chance to force Reddit to rethink their planned changes - no matter how small that chance may be.
My advice would be to check back every few days to see if we're back. We will be watching how events unfold in the coming weeks and doing what we think is the right thing to do by balancing our support for the protest and our appreciation to our subreddit members.
Let's hope for the best. See you on the other side....
