One of my favorite dad quotes for my daughter is "show me your friends and I'll show you your future". The idea is that you spend your time with intelligent and highly motivated people, you're much more likely to end up as the same kind of person than if you hung around with losers. And yes, even Beverly Hills has losers especially at her age - teenagers with learner's permits, vape pens, and Teslas who are proof that a parent's financial success doesn't always translate into parenting success and good judgement.

That quote also explains why, as a somewhat recently divorced dad, I'm not banging a 29 year old receptionist or snorting coke off of a stripper's ass. Because as fun as that all might sound, the eventual sober reality would set in - that I'd just be spending my time with a different set of losers and pissing away my future opportunities and accomplishments and wasting my most precious asset.

I do worry about my daughter when she grows up, especially if she stays here, because truthfully I don't think smart women have an easy time in life. They typically want to date someone as intelligent and successful as they are, or even more so, and that narrows their options a lot, because unfortunately a lot of those intelligent and successful guys are banging 29 year old receptionists because they think a hot young midwit is an accomplishment and status marker rather than a sign of poor judgment. Hopefully she can find one of the good ones when the time comes, perhaps one that's older and wiser, or was just raised right.
