Me and my friend are moving to Bishkek for 6 months to year for an academic mobility program from our uni in Ukraine. According to the research that we have done as of now, Bishkek feels like one of those places where we have to be a lil more than precautious to live peacefully. I would like to know how right or wrong this idea is and the challenges that men [specifically men of color (South Asian)] would likely face living in Bishkek?
I was there so so long ago, and as a white guy my experience probably wouldn’t add anything to what your experience will be. I had a wonderful time though both times, 2001 and 2003. I am gay and I was with my now husband at the time, and we even found an underground gay club and had amazing dancing. We felt perfectly safe, and everyone was quite friendly.
