I’ve been working at Kwikstar for about 9 months now. I had originally started in September and was working temporarily at another store waiting for the one in my town to be made. Since working there everything has just been going downhill. Our SL announced that she’d be transferring to ANOTHER store that was also being built immediately after our new gen 2 location in my town. Everyone I’ve worked with that isn’t a GSL, ASL, or FSL had had mixed feelings about her up until when she left. She was largely just lazy with any feedback about other employees and negativity in the workplace. She had a very strange disdain for certain high schoolers who worked in the store, even though they and I are the 2nd shift people on the weekends who work our asses off and on the weekday evening shifts ending at 10. One of my friends had a pretty occupied schedule with her schooling and extracurricular activities and had explicitly explained to our SL that she needs certain days off to accommodate her activities, and I can only suspect that the SL blatantly disregarded her needs as an employee or irresponsibly forgot what she very specifically said she needed off. Once she left we thought things would be a lot better, but oh boy..

Our ASL at the time was pretty cordial with all the employees, efficient, occasionally a bit bossy but overall tolerable to be around. But with our former SL now transferred, she became the new SL for the store in my town. Ever since then she’s been on a goddamn power trip. I’m not sugarcoating anything when I say she’s extremely commanding to everyone she talks to who’s not an ASL. And a complete control freak, I might add. Frequently checks the cameras, ONLY to check the high schoolers who recently worked. Will give you a 3 second explanation of a task and then get irritated if you aren’t up to speed immediately. On top of that, there are numerous people being hired that are dragging the place down. Lackluster new coworkers, a bitchy SL, scheduling gone to shit (They’ve cut my hours so much even though I’m available to work 24 a week; I went nearly 3 weeks with only 3 days of work during that whole time). As someone who’s about to enter college in the fall, I’m really debating if anything will change and if the conditions and work I am doing are worth the hardship. If they don’t schedule me and just continue to cut hours I see no reason to stay, it’s honestly becoming exhausting just going into work at this point but I need the money to pay for college. So yeah I just feel stuck, it’s hard to find a job with starting pay of 15 these days.
