I have had the pond with the same koi for about 1.25 years now. Koi are approximately one foot long each, I have 10. A significant portion of the pond is covered.

Here is the problem, anytime I approach the pond or try to feed them they immediately hide and only come out when they cannot see me. No matter how much I wait or slowly approach the pond, they hide. Now I just have to throw the food in and watch from a distance. I want to be able to hand feed them but at this rate it doesn’t seem possible.

For sure, it has been ruled out that there are no predatory animals or things scaring the koi. What can I do to get them to hand feed and be more comfortable. I tried holding off on food for a day or two like videos suggested, but to no avail.
