I was said pretty casually in a conversation between Kvothe and Devi, but it totally encapsulates Pat's writing for me.
"Some people write like they are afraid someone will actually understand them."
I have read plenty of books that have beautiful prose, and many of them almost go out of their way to make me feel stupid for not getting it.
These books casually drop so many profound lines, quotes, and themes throughout the story, and none of them require you to re-read it to uncover its meaning. I actually had to train myself to stop reading when I hit a great line, or I would be distracted thinking about for the next page or two and have to go back.
His writing is far from simple, but simple all the same.
Anyways, if anyone knows any other authors whose prose even lands in the ballpark, I'm all ears. I need more.
