Defining outfit for each type
Post Body

Iā€™ve been thinking lately about what is the best way to make sure you found your type, or even to test out different types. I know for that the original Kibbe, clothes do not have Image IDs. However, I also know that when I see a celebrity who is not wearing their lines, I know something is off, but I just canā€™t quite put my finger on it. I think most people feel that way when looking at someone not wearing their lines. I think we all instinctively know what looks good on others a little better than we know about ourselves.

Therefore, I thought, what if we can write up a guide of the ā€œidealā€ lines for each type, and use just one outfit for each type to test them out? For example, for DC, wear something tailored and elongated, for Romantic, wear something with a soft fabric that drapes, etc... (Taking all of Kibbeā€™s guidelines and trying to reduce them into one ideal outfit per type). It would be important to emphasize that this will not be 100% accurate, but it can help at least narrow down some types! *I know we are all unique and will not fit perfectly in the same clothes, thatā€™s why I suggest guidelines rather than specific clothes recommendations.

Then, we could have a mini guidebook on how to try on the different lines. We can use this as an extra step after making the sketch exercise an all the other parts.

The reason I believe this could be good stems from the fact that even before knowing my type, I could see some types of clothes that did not flatter me at all. For example: Iā€™m a DC. For me personally, I knew that wearing Gamine lines did not look good at all. Even if I hadnā€™t taken the test, I would have known that wearing color blocks and short lines does not look good on me. I also knew that wearing makeup of many colors, or lots of jewelry make me look cheap and unkempt. This is MY personal observation of my own lines. I know I can wear clothes that look good on Gamines, but I would need to make some alterations, and vice versa. An example is the time I tried to dress like Zooey Deschanel in New Girl. I thought she looked amazing, and I bought myself vibrant colored skirts and tops with loud patterns like stripes and polka dots. I liked a lot of my look, but there was something bothering me, I kind of felt I didnā€™t look put together, maybe a little childish? (Whereas a gamine would not look childish, but cool and sophisticated in the same clothes). I couldnā€™t understand why, but now, looking back on it, I realize I was not honoring my vertical line.

I canā€™t be the only one who feels like this. What is your type, and what lines do you know you canā€™t wear? I think it would be great if people from the same type came up with the ideal outfit to try on for their type. What do you all think?
