Update not updating :(

The problem that I'm having is due to me not having KSP on Steam (my cousin downloaded the game on my laptop during Christmas, via the Squad website through his account), the launcher doesn't show that there is an update available. Instead, it is stuck on "Checking for Updates". I'll include a picture ASAP so you guys can see what I mean.
I'm unable to go to the Squad website to download it from there because I can't reach my cousin atm, and it was downloaded from his account. Any solutions?
