Why no asperegus rocket staging in the real world?

Post Body

Asparagus staging is where you have a ring of fuel tanks, usually six, around a center tank and the fuel empties from the outer tanks first, as the tanks empty you can jettison them, usually in sets of 3, lightning the rocket. It works really really well in Kerbal space program, but I've never seen a rocket like this in real life.

Is this due to a mismatch in physics models between Kerbal and real world? Or is there some other reason why people don't make asparagus staged rockets?
