After days of going back and forth from different clinics, today I just got diagnosed with Keratoconus. Was not shocked though since the 1st ophthalmologist I've been has already suspects that I have one and adviced that I'll take a Pentacam test in Manila (I'm currently in my hometown, 800km away).
I had only planned on changing the grade of my glasses coz it's been a year since I bought it. Then the Optometrist referred me to an ophthalmologist because of my unusual high astigmatism. The 1st ophthalmologist I've been to suspects that I have Keratoconus and needed further test to confirm it. He suggested Pentacam but it's not available in my province. I then go back to the optometrist because I am really persistent in getting new glasses. Days after, or today, I had an appointment with another ophthalmologist who then took me for a corneal tomography. I was finally diagnosed with Keratoconus. 100% in my left eye while 60% in my right. I was advised to follow-up after 3-6 months to check the progression of my Keratoconus and suggested Collagen cross linking (also not available here). I'm flying to Manila later this year (September) for my classes and also plans to take the Collagen cross linking procedure in that month.
The doctor didn't told me to get scleral or rgp lenses and I forgot to ask. But he told me before i took the test and diagnosed me that keratoconus patient usually uses one. So the questions is:
Do I need to get these lenses for my eyes? If so, do I need it immediately?
Do I also need to get Collagen cross linking immediately? Or can i wait?
What are the chances that my Keratoconus will progress fast?
I have allergic rhinitis and it makes my eyes itchy and i constantly rub it. Can it be the cause of my keratoconus?
I'm really trying my best not to panic and good words and advices will be greatly helpful for me. And also, english is my 2nd language so sorry for grammatical errors. Thank you :))
