Today in my right eye, which has little to no steepening/astigmatism, my Scleral lends kept fogging up after blinking. My eyes were more watery than usual. When you blink your eyes “pump” tears across the surface of your eye. So when this happened, whether it is because slightly off fitting or not, deposits gets under your Scleral and causes clouding. I did some reading on this to see what I could do and thought a thicker scleral fill would create a better seal/suction to prevent the clouding. Even after changing my solution several times within a half hour it kept happening and made it hard to focus at work in front of a screen. I found this article:
MIDDAY FOGGING WITH SCLERAL LENSES
Currently I use these products: Cleaning: Bausch Lomb Advanced Cleaning Solution and conditioner (Step 1 & Step 2) Addipak preservative free saline vials (pink)
The suggestion was to mix preservative free eye drops with the saline. You could go thicker by using Refresh Celluvisc vials and top it off with saline. I went out and bought:
Bausch Lomb Simplus Multi-Action Solution $6USD - I wanted to try an all in one step to save time in the morning and heard good things about it. It also seemed like what I was using was not cleaning the proteins off of my lenses even when soaking them and gently rubbing with a q-tip.
Thera Tears Dry Eye Therapy (individual vials) $11USD - I needed preservative free eye drops to mix with the Addipak saline. There were other options too and I’ll experiment with cheaper options in the future but they are all in the same range of price for preservative free eye drops. These are what my doctor recommended to use when my eyes were recovering from CXL for a week.
I cleaned the contacts gently with the clear care and used half of the Thera tear vial, filling the rest of the Scleral with Addipak saline. I felt like a chemist in my office..
But I’ve had my contacts in since 7am this morning with crystal clear vision AND don’t feel my sclerals at all. I forgot I was wearing them. So that’s 15 hours. I encourage you guys to give this a try.
Was it the Clear Care? Or the mixture. Maybe both?
