Documenting is not really an African trait. By this, I am referring to how African countries have no reference point to their practices. For example, African societies had herbalists, and that knowledge never passed down as it was never documented. Even the traditional herbalists today have no documentation of their skills and medicinal recipe. Sure, you might wonder why should we document when meds can easily be imported? But no one thinks that for whatever products you enjoy from outside, those products have evolved through design documentation. Another example is I ask friends to send me a recipe of cooking foods such as chapati, Fufu, local stew, and even breweries, and what I found is that African cooking is an art of eyeballing Each time one cooks a chapati or any food, it's always a unique one from the ones made previously. The concept of measurement has not fully sank in. If I need a recipe to make local foods, I can't get definitive measurements or temperature recommendations. So it becomes hard to ever develop the current cooking because the knowledge is rarely passed down or documented.
