I have visited cities in multiple countries and what I found was Nairobi CBD is more of a 'Hustle and Bustle midtown' which has killed any culture to it. Also, I find that Nairobians tend to have a disgust of CBD and only view it from a commercial lens. In other capitals elsewhere, you find residentials in the heart of cities and some iconic cultural expressions on street pavements or even artistic statues. My observations(I might be off the mark on this) are that mall culture in Nairobi exists due to unappealing CBD which can be unsafe , quite untidy, and chaotic with public transportation and high noise levels.
