My grains were frozen in milk for about 6 weeks. I thawed the grains, put them in about 12oz of milk for 2 days, threw that batch out, added another 12oz of milk and waited another 24 hours to ferment (the grains make up about a heaping tablespoon)...
I thought that second batch would be okay to drink but each batch (including the first) smelled terrible and exactly like bad milk... I've never had such a bad scent before with my kefir. It smells like bad milk and feet.
The taste is nearly the same as other ferments I've made with the same grains. Has a bit of a fizz at the back of the throat, too.
What could be I be doing wrong? The milk I've been using for my kefir hasn't changed...
