Genre: Romance

I'm working on a new book (novel?) and I just need a little feedback on this opening. I'm trying to figure out if this a good direction to go with it. Any feedback would be very helpful.

I glared at my best friend, Adam Harris, as he sat on my bed. His hands sat on the back of my chair which prevented me from turning around to watch my anime. "Come on," he whined. 

I blew air out of my nose and shook my head again before signing, "I'm not going." 

"Please, Zeke. I'm going with Ariel and I need my comfort zone somewhere nearby." 

I rolled my eyes at the mention of his bitch girlfriend then shook my head again. "No, Adam." 

"Please?" He said to me again. 

I sighed. I've known Adam since birth actually. We grew up together in our town's orphanage. We got adopted together by best friends that lived next door to each other. We've literally been together our whole lives. All this to say that I know he'll never give up on asking me to go. 

The Happy Halloween Masquerade Ball that he's begging me to go to with him is next month. Parties aren't my thing. Never have been. I'm an autistic mute with anxiety. Going to a party for me and actually enjoying is like solving one of those impossible math problems. 

Coming out of my thoughts, Adam's pleading eyes. I thought about all I would go through in a month's time if I didn't say yes. He'd be asking me constantly, throwing subtle (but not subtle at all) hints my way, and texting me non stop. I'd never get through another episode of anime again. I'd be saying yes by the end of the week if I let it get to that point. 

Sensing victory, Adam gave me a large smile and waited. When his victorious smile started to dwindle, I finally nodded. He gave a loud shout and started to dance around my room. When he focused on me again, I added my surprise. "I'll go with you on one condition," I signed. 

Adam tilted his head, "Proceed." 

"I want one of those cute little Halloween baskets you see couples put together on Twitter as well as a 5 new, custom made minecraft skins, and a best friend's Halloween before the ball like we used to." 

"That's it?" Adam asked, his mouth a straight line. I nodded and watched as he broke into another smile. "Of course I can do that. Especially the best friends Halloween. Spending all of Halloween day with my best friend is going to be a sweep. I have a alot of time to make the skins and I've been saving up money since I started working as Mom's voice actor in her animations. "

He pulled out the extra bed that sat in the wall and locked it to the floor so it didn't fly back into the wall like it used to when we were six or seven. 

Glad to be done with that conversation, I turned back to my computer to finish watching Deku's journey to becoming a hero. I was just sinking into my normal frame of mind where I don't hear or see much of anything aside from my anime when Adam spoke again. "Tomorrow, we're going shopping for suits and masks so be up early." 

I pretended not to hear him and went back to my anime.
