Hey guys, just finished up a revision of a Sci-Fi novel I've been working on, and I think it's about time I got some extra eyes on it. I'm looking for a few beta readers.
The book is called Vick's Vultures, and it comes in at about 55k words. It's about the captain and crew of a privateer space ship tasked with salvaging and stealing technology from alien races to give Earth a fighting chance in the stars. In the course of their duty, the Vultures rescue the prince of a powerful alien race's ruling family, and race to deliver him home before a rival commander catches up with him and kills the prince and the Vultures. If you're on the fence, you can check out my previous work, The Sorcerous Crimes Division for an idea of what to expect. Or you can read the first 3 pages of Chapter 1!
What I'm looking for from Beta Readers
- Can you finish a 150 page novel in 2 months? I sure hope so, but if not, i'm more interested in any feedback you can give at the end. No pressure to read more than you want or have time for.
Consistency. Is a character a sensor officer in one chapter and a communications officer the next? I want you to rub it in my face until I fix it.
Questions. What do you ask while reading that doesn't get answered by the end? This is the most important thing to me, it lets me know what I failed to explain well, or at all. Fresh eyes are super critical to this. Also tell me what works for you, what doesn't, and what parts just make no sense at all.
Grammar Not-zis. Can you ignore a few typos and questionable punctuation marks? I'm not asking for a proof-read, just a critique on the content.
If you're interested, leave a reply on here, or send me a PM with your email address. Or email me directly at [email protected] with 'beta' somewhere in the subject line. Once I have the email addresses of anyone interested I will compile an email list and send the book out to everyone in a day or two (depending on how fast I hear from people) with a few more notes.
