Dear Mr. /u/collegeprepkid,
Thank you for contacting me to express your support for consumer privacy rules. I always appreciate hearing from my constituents, and I am glad to receive your input on this important issue.
You may be pleased to learn I voted against S. J. Res. 34. As you may know, this bill would rescind a final rule by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) entitled "Protecting the Privacy of Customers of Broadband and Other Telecommunications Services." Under the FCC's rule, internet service providers (ISPs) are required to clearly disclose to customers the collection, use and sharing of their personal information. ISPs also must obtain consumers' permission before sharing sensitive information such as web browsing, app usage and geo-location history.  S. J. Res. 34 passed the Senate by a vote of 50-48 and passed the House by a vote of 215 to 205. It now awaits action by the President.
More broadly, I believe innovation in the field of telecommunications is essential to the growth of our economy. At the same time, it is important to always be aware of and protect consumers and their privacy as technology advances.
Again, I want to thank you for taking the time to share your views, and I certainly will keep them in mind.Â
Kind of generic but I thought I would share.
